Monolith
Gavin Ashworth (Dun)

Gavin Ashworth’s sculpture and performance Monolith will be shown at the City Library. Part modern-abstractionism, part Neolithic tomb, or maybe some 2001: A Space Odyssey? Watch out for the electronic sound performance at the ground floor of the library at the opening of the exhibition.

Opuscules
Pearl with a Girl Earring (Dun)

 An opuscule, according to Collins, is a small or insignificant artistic work. Pearl with a Girl Earring has created a series of six pamphlets, distributed for your entertainment. Part cartoon, part literature and part absurdist propaganda, they include such titles as Suspected Secret Fantasies of Powerless Public Figures and MyFacepod v.2.4. obsolescence, instruction manual. They are opuscules.

Quixotic
Aroha Novak and Elise O’Neill (Dun)

Quixotic is a group art exhibition exploring the theme ‘in an ideal world…’ The artists involved have been asked to interpret this statement in any way they desire, producing a plethora of possibilities as well as some great art! Artists: Alissia Holzer, Jasmin Lamorie, Anya Sinclair, Elise O’Neill and Aroha Novak. Quixotic means unrealistically and impractically optimistic, idealistic and chivalrous.

Fu Ta Go / Twins
The Theatre As Is (Dun)

New local company The Theatre As Is present an exploration of the place where ancient ritual theatre and modern improvisatory/physical practice merge. Starting with the model of Japanese Noh, this piece is devised from an old story, elaborated through movement, music and stillness, and utilising some of Dunedin’s most electrifying emerging talent.

New Live Cinemas
Dadson & Hall (Dun)

Live action performance, improvisation by Phil Dadson and Adrian Hall. Two floors of Chicks Hotel will be employed for viewing, listening and performance. Cellar will be used for live action. Close circuit Wi-Fi TV and radio mikes will link the three levels. Imagery will be projected on the bar screen and walls of the room above. Dedicated film will contrast real time action and imagery.

Blue Oyster Performance Series
Blue Oyster Art Project Space (Dun)

Encompassing everything from body art to sound, video to installation; definitions of what performance means and what it can be are constantly shifting. The Blue Oyster Performance Series aims to showcase this diversity, profiling the work of prominent New Zealand practitioners alongside filmic documentation, historic works and discussions. From post-punk to postmodernism, this series is sure to intrigue and provoke.
