Cell

Cell is a series of performance events designed to stimulate critical debate around the divide between audience and performer and between the performers themselves. Audience members are encouraged to establish their own visual perspective. Performers, who are separated visually and physically from each other, must rely on their own resources or be informed by an audience member entering their cell.

The art of living is an ever precarious balancing act. We all have three masks: that which we present to the world, that which we present to ourselves and that of truth. heel ruby explores the psychological architecture of self through Judy Garland, the woman who was molded into the childlike character of Dorothy. We know how Dorothy returns from Oz. Not so Judy from Dorothy.

The Pedgogy Project: Open lecture, workshop, masterclass
Cie Porte K/L (France)

This innovative and experimental French company provide a methodology of profound development based on highlighting the different notions of creation and its place in society. Be the one who samples, who connects, who emerges, who composes, who mobilizes, who stands out. Workshop open to 16 years and over. Masterclass requires five years dance experience. All events free. Exploring personal obsessions of improvisation, props, voice and a general irreverence for the conventional processes of dance creation, four dance students, in their final year of training, decide to express their own creative and distinct voice in an unfamiliar land.

Te Ngaru Hou 2010
Artist Development Agency (Dun)

Te Ngaru Hou 2010 features new work by indigenous contemporary dance artists. Vicki Van Hout is an aboriginal dancer based in Sydney and Louise Potiki-Bryant and Rachel Ruckstuhl-Mann are both Ngai Tahu. Te Ngaru Hou is hosted by Kati Huirapa ki Pukeraki at their beautiful marae in Karitane. The audience to each show will be welcomed formally onto the marae with a powhiri.

The Quantum Enigma
Sascha Perfect (Wgtn)

In this piece of dance theatre Butoh and live music fuse together to create a rich, sensual and other-worldly experience. The work utilises extended vocal techniques and stretched timing. Life and death hang in the balance as a soul escapes its earthly form. Animalistic figures emerge from the blackness as time unfolds backwards and Memory recreates the fateful event.
