ARTIST PARTICIPATION

The 2009 Dunedin Fringe Festival will be held over eleven action-packed days between March 26 and April 5. More than ever the focus is on presenting a programme of high quality, contemporary and innovative artistic work. Artist produced events are the backbone of the Festival and include artists from throughout New Zealand as well as overseas guests.

In the tradition of fringe festivals worldwide the Dunedin Fringe is an open-access festival. This means that artists, director, or producers must register their event. Event registration involves filling in the artist registration form, signing the artist/festival contract, and paying a registration fee.

All art forms are eligible and it is generally up to the artist to decide on the content, venue, cost and duration of the event. The Dunedin Fringe brings all the events together in one funky programme and works hard to support and promote the artists.

VENUE AND GRANT APPLICATIONS

The Fringe Festival books key venues so they are available for Festival artists. Artists can apply for one of these venues as part of the registration process.

New Zealand artists can also apply for a New Work or a Travel grant from the Fringe Festival. The Fringe Festival applies to Creative New Zealand to support the development and presentation of innovative and experimental art.

OTHER WAYS TO BE INVOLVED

Artists who don’t have an event to register can either collaborate with other artists to stage an event or take part in one of the Festival produced events. These are yet to be decided for 2009.

Artists interested in taking part should sign up to the Fringe E-Newsletter to stay up-to-date with the latest information.
