Volunteer - Be part of the Festival Crew

See the Festival from the inside by volunteering to be part of the Festival crew. Every year we recruit dozens of volunteers who help make the Festival happen. Roles can include:

  • Front-of-house – ticketing and ushers
  • Production – helping pack in and out of venues or setting up events
  • Promotion – distributing posters, fliers, erecting signage
  • Administration – office duties, word processing, liaison

We are looking for volunteers now so fill out the volunteer form and send it to us or contact us at the Festival office.

Artist Participation

Each year artists can apply to be part of the Dunedin Fringe Festival. Artist produced events are the backbone of the Festival and encompass all art forms. The Dunedin Fringe is a great opportunity for emerging and established artists to showcase new work, push their work to the limits, develop new audiences, and meet loads of like-minded artists.

Artists can either register their own event and have it listed in our Festival programme, or get involved in one of our Festival events. An artist Registration Pack is released in September each year, which outlines how the Festival works, costs, and potential funding.

The Festival does not buy or produce artist events. Instead artists produce their own event and get to keep any profits. Artists from outside Dunedin or New Zealand are welcome to take part. The focus of the Dunedin Fringe is on presenting original, contemporary art and performance with a strong focus on experimental works.

The dates of the Dunedin Fringe follow the Wellington, Auckland and Adelaide Fringe Festivals, making a New Zealand tour a real possibility. The Dunedin Fringe is also just prior to the International Comedy Festival. If you have any questions please contact the Festival office.

Friends of the Fringe

The Festival invites supporters to become a Friend of the Festival. In return for a modest membership fee the Festival can offer you special benefits. Our goal is to develop an independent form of income to support the growth and development of the Festival. The Dunedin Fringe Festival plays a vital role in stimulating exciting new work and supporting new talent. By becoming a friend you help support the ongoing viability of the Festival. This is especially important considering the Festivals focus on experimental and alternative work and the fact that we do not take any ticketing income from participating artists.

Friends of the Festival receive:

  • Festival Newsletter
  • Invite to the Festival Programme Launch
  • Free entry to Academy Award Night and Festival Club
  • Ticket specials and giveaways
